ČT Sport is a favorite for lovers of Czech sport. Known for its excellent coverage of football, ice hockey, and athletics, as well as a variety of other sports and major events such as the Olympic Games, it’s one of the most popular of Česká televize’s channels.
It’s gone through a number of changes over the years. Originally called ČT4 Sport in 2006, the name was shortened to just ČT4 two years later. It adopted its current name when Česká televize rebranded in 2012.
Only one thing hasn’t changed though — the quality of the programs. ČT Sport has been a constant in sports coverage for over a decade, and many Czech viewers hold it near and dear.
There is no “near” though when you’re outside the Czech Republic. Watching ČT Sport is almost impossible for Czech expats and travelers travelling or living abroad if they want to get their sports fix.
Česká televize calls it “limited copyright” — in other words, the channel is geographically restricted to the Czech Republic and blocked everywhere else. Don’t worry though; there is a way to watch it from abroad. The answer to your problems comes in three letters: VPN.
Why Can’t I Watch ČT Sport Now?
That’s a very reasonable question. After all, if you go to Česká televize’s live TV streaming platform, you can watch ČT24 (the only 24-hour news channel in the Czech Republic) unrestricted, no matter where you’re watching from.
The same applies to ČT:D, the kids channel. However, other channels are not fully available outside of the Czech Republic. Some shows ( ČT 2 ) are not available online at all and others ( ČT 1 , ČT Sport ) are limited by copyright.
Copyright means there are restrictions on availability. As such, this is what you’ll see if you try to watch the ČT Sport livestream from abroad, both in Czech and English:
The good news is that with a VPN, you can bypass ČT Sport’s geoblocks (and any other channels for that matter).
How Will a VPN Help Me?
VPN means virtual private network. It serves a variety of purposes, one of them is to help you get around geoblocking. It will change your online location by letting you choose a new server for your IP address so you’ll appear to be wherever you want in the world.
If you select a Czech server, you’ll get around geographical restrictions and you’ll be able to watch ČT Sport from virtually any country in the world.
But there’s a lot more to VPN than allowing you to watch sports on TV. If you’re just getting to know this handy tool, make sure to check out our beginner’s guide.
There are a couple of things to look out for when choosing a VPN provider. You’ll want one that is fast, reliable and offers a good number of servers in the Czech Republic.
